The forerunner to the modern-day baseball cap (known as the "Brooklyn style" cap) appeared in dugouts in the late 1850s. Before this, players were shading their eyes with everything from straw hats to flat caps to derbies (of sorts). All cool hats, to be sure, but they didn't perform so well, particularly when running between bases. Keep shaded in a 160-year-old tradition in cool, vented cotton.
